"Do you know that there is such thing called Google Verification or Factory Reset Protection before you are able to factory reset android? Read along to find out more."

Part1. What is Factory Reset Protection

Do you know what is factory reset protection on your Android? We all know how dreading a factory reset on android is and how painful it is when you have lost everything inside. It becomes worse if you have not taken backups and you totally lost all files.

With Google verification, no one can perform a factory reset on android except for the rightful owners or with permission especially when the phone or tablet is lost or stolen.

This initiative to avoid identity theft and added protection was made possible by Google to lessen the cases of data loss, and as well as lost or stolen devices.

Since the Android Lollipop, there is now a thing called FRP or better known as Factory Reset Protection. This will require you to verify the Google account associated with the device upon performing a factory reset even in recovery mode.

We all know that Android smartphones are very easy to use and are very tempting to thieves especially when you are using the latest models.

However, it can be a headache when you have forgotten about the details you used in the verification. It can also be troublesome when you already sold the device and later on forgot to reset the phone leaving the new owner with a big hassle.

Part2. How to Enable Factory Reset Protection on Android

How to enable factory reset protection on Android phone? After several cases of lost and stolen devices and identity thefts, Android became vigilant in giving protection to their loyal users.

To better protect your Android devices from thieves, after doing a factory reset on a protected android device, you will need to either unlock the phone screen or enter the Google Account password.

After several cases of lost and stolen devices and identity thefts, Android became vigilant in giving protection to their loyal users.

To better protect your Android devices from thieves, after doing a factory reset on a protected android device, you will need to either unlock the phone screen or enter the Google Account password.

This verification applies to the following:

  • When you remotely reset the phone to Find My device
  • Hard Resetting the device
  • Factory Reset in Settings

If you are unable to verify the information asked, then you cannot use the phone after the reset. This will totally leave you with a useless phone unless you contact the previous owner.

Factory Reset Protection is automatically enabled by default during the account setup. The moment you add a Google account this will then set up the FRP.

To enable FRP:

  1. Open Settings from the home screen
  2. Tap Accounts and tap Add account
  3. Tap Google and enter the username and password

To disable FRP

  1. Launch Settings
  2. Tap Accounts and tap Google
  3. Tap your Google account and then tap the settings icon on the upper right
  4. Tap Remove account

Tips:

If you are planning to sell your phone, don’t forget to remove your Google account and perform the factory reset on Android on your own to avoid hassles on the next user.

Do not perform a factory reset after you have changed the password. Wait for at least 24 hours before doing so as per security purposes.

Tips: You can read another article if you want to restore data from your Android phone after the factory reset.

  2. On the pop-up window, tap Google Keyboard Setting
