Every Android device user out there has to be smart. And being smart means setting up a screen lock PIN, pattern, or password on your Android device. In this way, other people won’t have access to it.
Aside from that, you can also use your fingerprint as the password to open your phone. Although, even if you use a fingerprint as the security feature, your device might still prompt you to input your own backup PIN (or whatever type of password) especially during times wherein you have restarted your device or you have modified the security settings.
If you are now experiencing the problem wherein you forgot your pattern, password, or PIN, then you’re like everybody else. A lot of people experience this problem.
Well, when you are locked out of your Android device, it can be frustrating. However, there are some things you can actually do in order to gain access to your device. Also, there are tools you can use to help you unlock your phone.
In this article, we will be telling you the different methods you can implement in order to regain access to the device you have been locked out of. Plus, we will be telling you the different tools you can use to help unlock your Android phone. Let’s get started.
Method 01: Utilizing Find My Device
Find out if your phone is on Android version 7.0 (Nougat). Or, if it is in Android version 6.0 (Marshmallow) or Android version 5.0 (Lollipop). If it is, the best thing you can do to regain access to your device is to utilize that of Google’s Find My Device.
In order for you to be able to implement this method, you should have your Google account’s password and email address. Plus, your device has to be connected to that of the Internet.
You would also need a laptop or a computer or another device that can visit a web page. In this way, this method would work. Below are the steps you should follow in order to do it:
Step 01 - Visit the page for Find My Device on your laptop or computer or any device that can open sites.
Step 02 - Log into this one with your own Google account.
Step 03 - It will probably be on default to that of your current phone. However, what if you have multiple devices that are registered on your Google account?
Well, you can choose the right device by pressing the icon and the name located within the page’s upper left side.
Step 04 - On the left side, press the option Lock.
Step 05 - You will now input a new password. After which, confirm this password. Ensure that you will now remember the new password.
Step 06 - Go back to your previously locked Android device. Enter the new password you have entered before. Now, you can gain access to it.
Method 2: Utilizing Samsung Option For Find My Mobile
Have you been locked out of your Samsung device? Well, this might be the method for you. If you own a Samsung device, it is highly likely that you have created a Samsung account when you started using it.
Plus, it is highly probable that during the process of setting up your phone, you have Find My Mobile activated within it.
Well, if you did, then you’re into unlocking your Samsung device quickly. You simply have to use Find My Mobile in order to do so. Before you do this, the phone you have been locked out off should be connected to the Internet. You must also have another device that will allow you to connect to Samsung’s webpage. Finally, you also need to know your Samsung account detail such as password and email address.
Here’s how to use Find My Mobile step by step:
Step 01 - Go to Samsung’s Find My Mobile page using your laptop, computer, or any device that can visit web pages. Log into this page using your own Samsung account.
Step 02 - The current device and its related phone number must be shown on the page’s upper left side. Check out the options located on the page’s right side. Press Unlock My Device.
Step 03 - You can now remotely unlock the phone by simply inputting your Samsung account’s password.
Method 3: Unlocking Devices On Android Version 4.4 (KitKat) Or Devices Of Earlier Versions
What if you forgot your pin on Android versions 4.4, which is KitKat, and earlier? Well, you simply have to do the following steps below:
Step 01 - Input the wrong password, PIN, or pattern for about five times. Wait until a prompt shows up.
Step 02 - The prompt will say Forgot PIN, Forgot Password, or Forgot Pattern. Whatever it does say, depending on the type of security method you used, just tap this one.
Step 03 - Enter your Google’s account password and username.
Step 04 - Input a new PIN, password, or pattern. Now, you will have access to your device.
What If You Don’t Remember Your Own Google Account?
Well, if you don’t remember your Google account’s password and email address (or username), then you simply have used another device (e.g. laptop, computer, another smartphone) to log into the Google Account Recovery page. Follow the prompts found there and you can instantly get access to your Google account.
Method 04: Factory Reset
If you have done any of the methods above and it still didn’t work, the last thing you should do is to do a factory set. This can be done within the menu for recovery mode. However, the downside to this is that every single data on your device will be erased.
You have to remember that your device might have its own Factory Reset Protection (FRP). This is usually, by default, activated for all Android devices version 5.1 or later. This is in order to discourage those who steal phones. If Factory Reset Protection is activated, you might still need to input the details of your Google account after you have finished doing the factory reset.
In order to go to recovery mode, you simply have to Google the specific device you have and find out which buttons to press to go into recovery mode. From there, you’ll see the option to do the factory reset or hard reset. Follow the on-screen instructions and you’ll get to factory reset your phone in no time. Take note that by this time, you should be remembering your PIN, pattern, or password to save you the hassle of unlocking from a phone you have been locked out of.
If you don’t want to do a factory reset, there are tools to unlock your Android phone. There are both free and paid tools out there to help you do so.
The idea here is being able to unlock your phone without the need to be techy like typing in command lines or flashing in custom kernels for rooting.
